because of the dearth of classes next week, lissy and barbie finally decided to plunge headfirst into a vat of (hopefully) successful adventure- if not, eager blogtators for barbie's misadventures will surely get a rich serving when she gets back.

la mondialisation de la paix, une utopie?

for a french class, we were required to attend a conference about the globalization of peace. it was a very interesting round table event as one of the guest speakers was m. christian chesnot, a former hostage in iraq, as well as a renowned journalist. the other guest was m. pierre servent, a former journalist for le monde and currently a media adviser for defense issues.

although the conference was entirely in french, i could understand most of what was discussed; and i must say that it is very distressing to note that the issues brought up for a topic such as this lacked the depth and analysis which i expected from people of this caliber. questions asked and answered were sadly superficial and lacked the analytical perspective which, i feel, is a must in this sensitive topic.

being the politically-inclined nerd that i am, i was very much looking forward to this conference because my brain can only take so much wild parties, weird come-ons and business jargons.

what a letdown.
